Inspiration for the works is based on an 8th Century Indian literary work in Sanskrit written by Adi Shankara called the Soundarya Lahari or Saundaryalaharī (Sankskrit: सौन्दर्यलहरी) meaning "Waves of Beauty”. More information here.
